What the Flip is UNO Flip? UNO Flip takes the classic UNO experience and dials up the chaos. With a double-sided deck, players flip between the ‘Light Side’—a familiar, friendly game—and the ‘Dark Side’—where penalties are brutal and strategies get ruthless. It’s a game of risk, unpredictability, and well-timed sabotage. Will you play it safe, or embrace the flip?

Be the first player to get rid of all your cards, or in the scoring variation, be the first to reach 500 points.

What You Need

A UNO Flip deck, which has two sides:

• Light Side (white border) – the “friendly” side.

• Dark Side (black border) – the cruel, unforgiving side where chaos reigns.

2 to 10 players, but it’s best with at least 4.

Set Up

• Make sure all cards are facing the right way (light side on one side, dark side on the other).

• Pick a dealer and shuffle the deck.

• Deal 7 cards to each player, keeping the light side facing you.

• Place the remaining deck in the center as the draw pile, light side down.

• Flip the top card of the draw pile to start the discard pile (if it’s an action card, apply its effect).

• The player to the left of the dealer goes first, and play proceeds clockwise.

Watch the step by step guide here!

Game Play

On your turn:

1. Match a card from your hand to the discard pile by number, color, or symbol and play it.

2. If you can’t match, draw a card. If you can play it, do so; if not, your turn ends.

3. You can choose not to play a card, even if you have a match.

Going Out

When you have one card left, shout UNO! before another player calls you out.

• If someone catches you before you say it, draw two cards.

• If you win by playing a penalty draw card (ie. Draw Five or Wild Draw Color), the next player still has to suffer the punishment.

Action Cards

The Light Side

• Draw One – Next player draws one card and loses their turn.

• Reverse – Changes the direction of play.

• Skip – Skips the next player’s turn.

• Wild – Change the color of play.

• Wild Draw Two – Change the color and force the next player to draw 2 cards (only playable if you have no cards matching the current discard color).

• Flip – This is the game-changer. When played, everyone flips their hand, and the game switches to the dark side. The draw and discard piles also flip.

Action Cards

The Dark Side

• Skip Everyone – Every player loses their turn except for the one who played it.

• Draw Five – Next player draws 5 cards and loses their turn.

• Wild Draw Color – Choose a color, and the next player must keep drawing one card at a time until they get a card of that color or a wild.

• Wild Draw Color Challenge – If you play this but actually had a card that could be played, the next player can challenge. If you’re innocent, they take the penalty plus 2 extra cards. If you’re guilty, you must draw cards until you hit the chosen color.

The Games stays and ends on the shown discard tone (dark or light) until another flip card is played.

Scoring:

You can play round-by-round, where the first player out wins, or

Scoring version: When a round ends, players total the points from the cards in their hands:

• Number cards (1-9) = Face value

• Draw One = 10 points

• Draw Five, Skips, Reverses, and Flips = 20 points

• Skip Everyone = 30 points

• Wilds = 40 points

• Wild Draw Two = 50 points

• Wild Draw Color = 60 points

First to 500 points wins (or play a set number of rounds and the lowest score wins).
